Flush with money after the extraordinary success of the film Beauty and the Beast in 1947, Jean Cocteau and his lover and star, Jean Marais, moved into this house near Fontainebleau, in the village of Milly-La-Foret. Tired of the constant demands on his time in Paris he sought refuge and this home provided it until his death in 1963.
Largely through the efforts and financial contributions of Pierre Bergé, the life of the artist is presented through paintings, drawings, furnishings and his personal collection of memorabilia and photographs.
