In the family for six centuries the Chateau de Cheverny was first opened to the public in 1922. Today, Marquis de Vibraye and his family live in the chateau and employ American marketing strategies and attitudes to draw over 350,000 visitors annually. So, first of all don’t try to cram this visit into a day of chateauing-there is far too much to see.
You will pass through the gift shop, filled with the usual souvenir tchotchkas and local products. And since the chateau was the inspiration for Marlinspike Hall in the Tintin cartoons you will find a wide assortment of objects selected from the adjacent, permanent Tintin exhibition.

Unlike most of the Loire chateaux Chevery is symmetrical, owing nothing to the Renaissance. The interiors are sumptuous and reflect the changing decorative tastes across the six hundred years of permanent inhabitation.
Hunting remains an important part of the local culture and every year from October 1-March 31 stag hunting is authorized. To assist the hunters 100 dogs fill the kennel. Their feeding at 3PM in winter and 5PM in summer is a spectacle to be seen.
Be sure to explore the extensive grounds and stroll along the canal. A treat in any season.
Since the chateau is open 356 days per year a winter visit might offer this vision in white.
On your way out be sure to stock up on the excellent Cheverny blanc.
