We’d been shopping at the Organic Market on the Blvd. des Batignolles and it was time for lunch. I remembered passing a quaint bistro on the rue des Dames called, quaintly enough , Un Air de Famille. From the outside it looks like the tiny salon de thé that Fréderic’s parents originally opened thirty years ago but inside it is a maze of nooks and crannies filled with antiques that can accommodate up to 100 diners.

From the 17.90 menus I selected a terrine de saumon speckled with vegetables, surrounded by an ocean of yellow pepper coulis-light, colorful and refreshing. M saved her calories for dessert.
One of the plats du jour was generous serving of beef cheeks in a Borgeuil sauce with a mountain of vegetables. M drank a Borgeuil and I opted for a Cote Lyonais.
Dessert served with two forks was a warm apple and red berry crumble. We were joined for coffee and a complimentary digestif by Frèderic who filled us in on his frequent wine tastings and jazz concerts.
The food comes out of the kitchen at a leisurely pace so you know your meal has been cooked to order. Between courses we chatted amiably with a family from Champagne and a parisienne who like us were making their first of many visits.
