Le Duc
For over fifty years Le Duc has been serving fresh fish and seafood in Montparnasse. A favorite destination for discreet celebrities you can almost be guaranted that someone well known will be in attendance. On our visit, the French actor,Vincent Lindon, was there. I didn't intrude and neither did he.
Christophe, the charming manager, greeted us warmly and commanded deux welcoming coupes de champagne rosé.
As I scanned the menu, I stopped at the selection of raw seafood: Sea bass and coquilles Saint-Jacques. Christophe " assured" me that Le Duc had been serving raw fish before the Japanese.
M selected palourdes (clams) in a cream sauce with thyme. I dipped the garlic toasts that accompanied my fish into the delicious sauce.
From the cellar, Chrisophe selected a gem: a 2015 Chinon blanc from Chateau de Saint Louans
For a main course we both jumped at Rougets Barbets poêlés (pan-sautéed red mullet) à l’huile d’olive sauce piquante. Five fish accompanied by roasted fennel and anchovy butter.
For wine, Christophe presented a Meursault Cuvée Maurice Chevalier, very nice but we were still remembering the Chinon blanc, that we will definitely seek out at our local wine shops.
As for dessert, M dived into her mille-feuilles so quckly that I had no time to shoot a photo or taste, but she oohed sufficiently for me to get the point. My marron glacé ice cream from Berthillon was an excellent way to end a lovely experience.
Le Duc is not meant for the budget-challenged but there is a luncheon menu that will give you the Le Duc experience.
