Evi Evane

On the bustling rue Guisard, filled with classic bistros, Italian trattorias and Irish pubs, Evi Evane offers a refreshing alternative. From the moment you enter you will be in the warm embrace of Maria Nikolaou (metaphorically, of course.)

Using only the feshest of ingredients, Dina Nikolaou has fashioned a Greek menu for grazing or feasting. My daughter Patricia, who loves Greece and its people even more that her native Mexico loves this place and she was right. We began with a tarama seasoned with citron confit and mint that was simply the best I've ever tasted.
This was follwed by salted mullet roe in yogurt with saffron. Our waiter served us a Pelopennesian red of the type probably drunk by Thucydides, when writing THE HISTORY OF THE PELOPENNESIAN WAR.

On to warm nibbles, greaseless grape leaves stuffed with rice, dry raisins and sun-ried tomatos with yogurt followed by balls of fried cod on a sea of tomato sauce and aromatic olive oil.
We had long since finished the first bottle of wine so an additional demi was placed before us.

And grilled octopus with caramelized onions-an unlimited quantity with a bottle of wine would be all I need.
Desserts were an exceptional Baklava with almonds, walnuts and honey with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for Patricia and fresh fruit in yogurt and honey.
We had no room for main courses, but, not to worry, I'll be back.
