The interior was clean and elegant as was the suit and tie wearing maitre d’ who promptly seated us at an intimate round table. I have been skeptical of the multi-national Asian restaurants that dot the city but I immediately felt good about the Mandarin and wasn’t disappointed.

I’d been fighting a cold so the spicy Pekinoise Soup (hot & sour) was the perfect starter. M selected a Thai soupe de crevettes au citronelle while Tim and Myra shared a crisp salade de calamar-I exercised poaching rights to great delight. We all shared an order of spring rolls after which I had sizzling prawns and scallops. M shared Thai chicken in coconut milk with curry and Tim and Myra doubled up on the sizzling shrimp platter.

All easily supported by a good Rhone at 21 euros. There are several whole steamed fish on the daily menus at around 20 euros. Today you could choose from, Bar with ginger, Daurade Royale or Sole in curry coconut milk.
