When it opened in 1910 Poulette was a hangout for customers and merchants from Les Halles. The new owners have wisely done nothing more than buffing and scraping, to reveal the magnificence of the Belle Epoque, Muchalike tiles. Wines are in the 5-7:50 euro category and very good. I started my meal with a Minervois Bio at 5 euros.

The menu is simple as befits this small space, but well chosen:-Magret de canard, lamb shanks with thyme and honey, grilled sea bass and my choice, a marinated hangar steaks with perfect fries. Dessert was an absolutely sublime panna cotta caramel with walnuts and fleur de sel-a creamy concoction that recalled dolce de leche from Buenos Aires.
Thanks. Lunch terrific, place is one I’ll go back to. Convenient, good feel in the place, not to bad on $$$$.
